Part the Third - In which the Cavalry shine

Into Elabad
The Lancers wheel left and make for the musketmen at the gates of Elabad, who see them coming, and retire to the safety of the town.

The Lancers charge the native muskets sheltering behind a low town wall, as the infantry behind them move up into the village. The wall is a risky leap, but the Bengali horses take it in grand style, as the surviving native musketmen pound through the streets to escape the lance points and sabers.

After a brief firefight the infantry is in control of the town.

The cavalry rides back onto the plain, as the Tommies clear out the last stubborn defenders and set about firing the buildings in Elabad.

As the Sikhs come down the ridge, the Martinis of the lead British unit clear the valley floor of charging native infantry. Beezel's ancient cannon in the rough terrain around Makkas finds their range, spraying the khakis with deadly shot.

In the rush to get through the pass and into battle order, the careful scouting of the nooks and crannies of the difficult terrain has been forgotten. A sharp lesson is in the offing.
