Motor Trucks
two early trucksModel T Van and Heavy Truck
The Model-T van at left is a Matchbox die-cast with the headlights removed. It is very well proportioned for a toy, and almost exactly the right size. It was sprayed with primer and brush-painted and weathered with craft acrylic paints.

At Christmas, Chevron service stations usually sell Lledo die-cast vehicles from Standard Oil's past. Around 1995, they offered a wonderful open-cab heavy tank truck with a chain-drive and acetylene headlights. It's a model of a big truck, so, even though it is underscale for 25s, it looks good on the table. If you game the early 20th century in 25mm, it's always a good idea to drop in on a Chevron station around Dec. 1.
Painted by David. Figures are small 25s from Ral Partha, painted by Steve.

heavy truck conversionHere are the original service-station toy and the conversion, together. The tank was removed, the headlights dropped to a lower position (possibly a mistake), the spigots removed from the back, and a scribed bed and driver added.

Daimler Truck
This great 1914 Daimler Marienfelde Truck is built from a 1:72 white-metal kit by Reviresco. The radiator shield and headlights have been removed to give the truck a slightly earlier look.

The kit goes together easily and looks very good. The only problem was a bit of a tilt to the cab roof (which was fixed by a little filing) and not knowing where to put the winch. It comes with a driver and passenger figure.

This is the "stock" version, with the WWI German Army radiator shield and canvas top.

The figure is a small 25mm from Ral Partha.

A wonderful photograph of rebel German sailors from the demoralized High Seas Fleet riding through the streets of Kiel in 1918 on a commandeered truck (possibly a Daimler).

This photo is from the excellent Dreadnought, in the Time-Life book series "The Seafarers" .
