Figuring Print Reductions
or Enlargements

For the Major-General's downloaded images

Save the image to your hard drive and import into whatever software you prefer to print from.

Print out the image, and check the size by measuring the 1-inch (25.4mm) bar.

If the size is not correct, divide the desired length of the bar by the measured length on your print.
You can do this in millimeters or decimal inches.
*For instance, measure the printed bar in millimeters, and divide 25.4 by the measured size.
----Example: The printed bar measures 32mm. 25.4 / 30 = 0.8467, so set the print reduction at 85%.
----Example: The printed bar measures 22mm. 25.4 / 22 = 1.154, so set the print enlargement at 115%.
*The calculation can be done with inches also, but you will have to measure with a decimal-inch ruler, or convert the fraction to decimal inches.
----Example: The bar measures 1.2 inches. 1 / 1.2 = 0.833, so set the print reduction at 83%.
